We had many events booked for our grand opening, but all of these had to be cancelled as a result of the coronavirus lockdown.

We are, however, deep in thought and preparation for future events – not least our “Barrow Gurney gets Back to Better” festival, which we hope to run as a weekend event during the summer/autumn (provided restrictions are eased by this time). The Back to Better festival will be a celebration of the community effort and action that we have experienced through these troubling times, including music, dance and art along with plenty of good food drink!
Watch this space to keep up to date with the Back to Better festival, and the other events and activities which we will add to our calendar in due time.

Local history, cycling and walking materials will be available from the Motto, enabling our visitors from near and far to get the most out of our beautiful village and surroundings. As we become more established, these materials will be developed and added to, including an in-depth history of the pub itself and the various characters that have passed through its doors!

One of our primary aims is to return to the Motto the regular cribbage, darts and other similar games and teams that had sadly been lost over the years. Coupled with the capability to offer live sports aired in the pub, the incorporation of a shisha bar, and our new venue space which we intend to build in the garden, we have no fear that there will be something for everyone on offer at the Motto. However, if you feel that something is missing, please don’t be afraid to send us a message – we are always happy to take suggestions and advice!
